Actually, "Guano" can also mean the droppings of sea birds. And it's a pretty handy commodity, because it can be used to increase crop production and is also used in the production of gunpowder.

Believe it or not, there was actually a guano-related war once. The "War of the Pacific" (Chile vs. Bolivia and Peru, 1879 - 1884) was in large part motivated by control of South America's vast guano resources.

How lame would it be to die in a war over bird shit?
