Seriously, one would think that Andy would know better by now, particularly with Mary sitting right next to him, but then, he's crazy.
As for skimpy female armour, there is another reason for that. Behold: (Linka). |

| A one-hit kill in D&D? From the back? Looks a lot like a sneak attack. Would the pun paladin happen to be a multiclass rogue by any chance? (This is fully possible in D&D, by the way, provided she took all the rogue levels she wants before taking her first paladin level. Which would be a logical parallel to her early days as a loan shark.) |

Well first off, we have no for-sure knowledge that it was a one-hit kill. A simple critical hit could have looked like what was portrayed.
Second off, if it *was* a one-hit kill, she could be a pure Paladin, but several levels above Andy's character (Dirk Wagonslayer). So maybe she was doing fairly normal damage for her level.
Finally, she would presumably have a "Smite Pun" ability, which she surely would use in this situation, allowing her to add her Charisma Bonus to her attack and gets a +1 damage per Pun Paladin level she has.
And if there are Pun Paladins, there would presumably be "Pun Avenger" swords, granting her an additional +5 to hit and damage. Probably +2d6 "Holy Fire" damage to punsters such as Dirk.

EDIT: Bah - eyejayarr and I posted basically the same thing at the same time. heh.

Or Smite Evil getting a critical (keen longsword with the feat that extends your threat rage, maybe?)
Andy's character is certainly a rogue, so he has d6 hit dice. Assuming he has neglible constitution and is level 10 (probably more), that means he has somewhere between 15 and 60hp.
Mary's character, assuming she is a straight Paladin and hadn't multiclassed from a rogue, and being level 10 as well would do 1d8 + strength. Smite Evil (Smite Punner?) would increase it to 1d8 + strength + 10. Factoring in a crit as well further increases that to 2d8 + 2strength + 10 (can't remember if Smite damage increases with a critical).
Assuming Mary has a strength of 16, which is a +3 bonus, she would deal a minimum of 15 damage, and a maximum of 32. Of course, there's a good chance she's weilding a magic weapon (probably +3, at tenth level), which increases the damage further, to 18 min, 35 max. (Weapon bonuses aren't factored into crits, I think).
Which, assuming she rolls well and Andy has rubbish HP, is enough to kill him.
I think.
EDIT: With Andy's post suggesting she's a higher level, add +1 damage for each level higher, due to smite evil). _________________ By reading the text above this (referred to hereafter as the "post"), you agree to read the post in a timely manner without exploding more than three(3) times.

Smite damage doesn't double with crits. Nothing but the die roll and STR bonus does.

Okay then. It's been a while since I've played DnD, I've been unable to find a DM who'll let me play my Sorceror/Psion. Grumble. _________________ By reading the text above this (referred to hereafter as the "post"), you agree to read the post in a timely manner without exploding more than three(3) times. |

| This thread makes me weep with D&D withdrawal, yet smile at the very fact that the phrase "Smite Pun" has been written into a ruleset. |

Well, you could all download Gametable and Ventrilo, then play with each other.
That's what I made it for, after all.

You should put a link to in on the "main" page, you lazy bastard. (Linka). And perhaps a link from the comic page to the main page and back. |

Of course, Mari is presumably a rogue (or thief or assassin if you prefer). The Pun Paladin might be Mari in disguise! Complete with glass eye, presumably. _________________ Mike B in OKlahoma

| Hence why she wears such a concealing helmet when the rest of her armor is so skimpy? |

Regarding GameTable, I had a lot of fun tinkering with it this past weekend, when I was given a copy of the Serenity RPG, as a belated birthday present.
This was my first real RPG experience beyond KOTOR - I just never got hooked in by any others. My brother and I had some fun, though, and using a scanner to create customized images for pogs, I really got into it.
That however, may have been related to using GameTable on a tablet PC, which is just unholy kinds of fun. |
